Acetamenophin Side Effects- Tylenol Alert

Did You Know?

That you may be in danger from a common pain reliever.

Tylenol may hurt the liver even at the recommended doses, reveals a new study published in the July 5, 2006 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The highest recommended dose of Extra Strength Tylenol sharply increased liver enzymes in healthy adults in the clinical study, an early sign of possible organ damage. In January 2004, the Food & Drug Administration had notified the State Boards of Pharmacy that the pain reliever could cause gastrointestinal bleeding, liver and kidney damage when taken in amounts higher than the recommended dosage. However, this latest study is the first to spot hints of trouble in healthy people taking the medicine as directed.

If you or a loved one has suffered liver damage or other serious injury related to acetaminophen, Tylenol, or paracetamol and N-acetyl-p-aminophenol (APAP), please contact the experienced pharmaceutical injury lawyers at Brown & Crouppen by calling 1-866-991-4700.

Tylenol Alert

Tylenol BottleOver-the-counter (OTC) drugs have many benefits. Acetaminophen is one of the most widely used pain-relievers in the U.S. and can be found in more than 100 products. While generally safe in short-term use, chronic use of the drug, taking the drug at higher than recommended dosage, or usage among those who drink excessive alcohol or have kidney disease can all have serious side effects – including kidney cancer or even death.

Because OTC drugs do not require a prescription, many consumers mistakenly believe that these medications are completely safe. The FDA is currently reviewing proposed package labeling changes warning of the risks associated with acetaminophen use. In the meantime, please consult your physician before discontinuing any medication.
